After getting his start reporting and copy editing in newsrooms across the Midwest, he moved to New York—and to the glossy, hellfire world of magazines, at one point becoming the copy chief of both Saveur and Paper at the same time. Imagine mussels garnished with fresh-picked Burberry, or a spicy spread for designer baguettes. Now pair that with a dry fruity white who had no sense of work-life balance.
